The Dream Recorder bridges the gap between artificial intelligence and the dream state, showcasing how AI-generated images, despite their strangeness, reflect the illogical nature of dreams. Its design is intentionally away from harsh tech aesthetics, aiming for a seamless integration into everyday environments. The device promotes a phone-free sanctuary by embodying a gentle presence while using 3D printing techniques to create a tactile experience. Collaborating with artist Alexis Jamet imprints a distinctive visual identity onto the device, reinforcing its connection to rest and dream-like exploration.
AI generates images by filling in blanks, stitching together fragments of learned data into something coherent but often strange. That process mirrors how our minds construct dreams.
We wanted to avoid the cold, clinical aesthetic that usually defines tech objects. The design of the Dream Recorder is chameleonic, an inoffensive part of the furniture.
3D printing gave us the freedom to experiment with these nuances in shape and texture, allowing us to move away from rigid symmetry toward something more tactile.
The Dream Recorder is an extension of the sacredness of phone-free sanctuaries, aiming to protect the mental boundary between rest and distraction.
