Meta AI can now use your Facebook and Instagram data to personalize its responses | TechCrunch
Briefly

Meta is enhancing its cross-platform chatbot, Meta AI, by rolling out a memory feature that allows the bot to remember users' preferences across Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp in the U.S. and Canada. This feature enables the AI to personalize recommendations by retaining information from past chats. For example, if a user mentions being vegan, the chatbot will factor that into future conversations. However, the memory functionality will not work in group chats, and users can delete memories anytime. The updates are met with skepticism due to trust issues related to Meta's data handling.
"Meta AI will start to give you answers based on what preferences and information you've shared," he wrote. "For example, it's helped me come up with creative bedtime stories for my daughters, so if I ask it for a new one, it remembers they love mermaids."
According to Meta, the memory feature lets the chatbot factor in important details based on context, such as dietary preferences for personalized responses.
Meta states that users can manage what the AI remembers and can delete memories anytime, though personal recommendations will not allow opting out.
Given how little people trust Meta with their data, one wonders how the updates will be received.
