Initially, generative AI was thought to potentially overwhelm alternative legal service providers (ALSPs) by replacing tasks they manage. However, the technology has not delivered on all its promises, leaving ALSPs crucial. Their importance is underscored by the messy nature of AI implementation, requiring skilled professionals to navigate its complexities. In-house legal departments are increasingly under pressure to manage growing workloads with diminishing budgets, relying heavily on ALSPs for efficient eDiscovery and other legal processes, establishing their vital role in the legal ecosystem.
AI can save time-so long as someone knows how to implement and supervise it. That someone is usually not a law firm partner who's also handling litigation strategy.
Part of it is that AI didn't end up delivering everything the tech world promised. But it did successfully replace a lot.
