Humane has announced the discontinuation of its AI Pin and the sale of parts of its business to HP for $116 million. The acquisition includes Humane's employees and intellectual property, with co-founders joining HP's new AI innovation lab. The AI Pin, launched in late 2023, functioned as an AI personal assistant. Customers will continue to use the devices until February 28, 2025, after which service will cease, but refunds will be available for specific customers until February 27, 2025.
Humane is discontinuing its AI Pin effective immediately, ceasing device sales, and offering refunds for certain customers, while HP acquires parts of the business for $116 million.
HP will acquire Humane's employees, software, patents, and patent applications, with co-founders transitioning to HP’s new AI innovation lab to foster product development.
The AI Pin, launched in November 2023, was touted as an AI personal assistant, using voice commands and a laser-projected display for interaction.
Humane's customers must submit refund requests for devices shipped post-November 15, 2024, by February 27, as the devices will stop functionally connecting on February 28, 2025.
