"The magic of the tool is that people get to listen to something that they ordinarily would not be able to just find on YouTube or an existing podcast," says Raiza Martin, who leads the NotebookLM team inside of Google Labs. Martin mentions recently inputting a 100-slide deck on commercialization into the tool and listening to the 8-minute podcast summary as she multitasked.
Despite the viral audio of two AI hosts in an existential crisis, the original poster clarifies that they simply guided the NotebookLM to roleplay without any true sentience involved.
NotebookLM, introduced last year, serves as an online research assistant, and its newly released Audio Overviews feature allows users to create podcasts from their uploaded documents.
Users are experimenting with the tool's capabilities, generating unique content, including snippets made from data dumps, and playfully testing its limits with nonsensical inputs.
