At the recent AI Action Summit in Paris, EU President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need for the private sector's investment to build 'AI Gigafactories'. These facilities would provide the necessary computational power for training large AI models, essential for scaling EU startups. Despite existing supercomputing resources, von der Leyen argued they are insufficient to meet industry demands, highlighting the urgency for enhanced infrastructure in AI. This initiative aims to make computational power more accessible, countering the trends towards monopolization by a few major players, particularly in the US.
Our start-ups need resources to scale up and we are far from widespread adoption of AI in our economy and society. That is why we are moving to the next level.
As AI requires massive computational capacity, the next step will be to launch AI Gigafactories. Very large data and computing infrastructures to train very large models.
