DeepMind's GenCast AI is really good at forecasting the weather
Briefly

"We’re seeing really, really rapid progress. I’m a little bit reluctant to say it, but it’s like we’ve made decades worth of improvements in one year," said Rémi Lam, DeepMind's lead scientist.
GenCast, DeepMind's latest AI agent, is a diffusion model trained on nearly 40 years of weather data, making it significantly more accurate than previous systems.
DeepMind's GenCast system outperformed the ECMWF’s ENS by providing more accurate forecasts 97.2 percent of the time over 15-day periods.
