According to the complaint, the New Mexico Department of Justice launched an undercover investigation in recent months to prove that Snapchat 'is a primary social media platform for sharing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and sextortion of minors.' The algorithm reportedly facilitates dangerous connections, with the account set to private still receiving recommendations to adult predators seeking to exchange explicit content.
Despite 'Heather' being just a decoy with a profile set to private, she was quickly recommended to numerous adult accounts, including those with clearly inappropriate names. After accepting one follow request, Snapchat’s algorithm suggested over 91 users, revealing how extensively predators can exploit the platform.
