In summer 2025, artists Bigert & Bergström will unveil an installation called Broken Greenhouse / Embodied Climate Futures at the Botanical Garden. This project involves collaboration with climate researchers and uses architectural forms to visualize UN's Shared Socioeconomic Pathways for 2100 through five distinct greenhouses. Each greenhouse interprets a different SSP scenario, such as SSP1's tube-shaped design for circular living and SSP4's cracked surfaces mimicking a dried-out desert, allowing visitors to interact with various climate futures through spatial experiences.
The installation presents five sculptural greenhouses that visualize projected climate scenarios, each corresponding to a different UN Shared Socioeconomic Pathway for 2100.
SSP1 embodies circular living with a tube-shaped green greenhouse synchronized with diurnal rhythms, functioning as an environmental clock for visitors.
SSP2 resembles an inverted red cottage greenhouse, providing a space for visitors to engage physically through a flagpole hammock.
SSP3 is designed as a rising line graph walk-through, where beaded glass curtains represent climate data in an engaging format.
