Professor Paul Hunter pointed out the West's reactive rather than proactive approach to global diseases, criticising the lack of preemptive measures that could prevent outbreaks from escalating.
Hunter remarked on the Western mentality concerning disease threats, saying: 'In the West we only really get interested in a disease when it starts directly threatening us,' which leads to delayed action.
