ASML pins hopes on AI, but Trump could rain on its parade
Briefly

ASML experienced a significant increase in orders and revenue in Q4 2024, driven mostly by demand for AI-related semiconductor products. The company reported net sales of €9.3 billion ($9.7 billion) for the quarter, marking a 29% year-on-year growth. CEO Christophe Fouquet noted that while bookings soared to €7.1 billion ($7.4 billion), it doesn't necessarily reflect business momentum, leading ASML to discontinue this metric. ASML remains a leader in EUV photolithography, crucial for advanced chip designs, and has seen consistent demand despite potential sales restrictions in China from the U.S. administration.
For Q4, ASML reported revenue of €9.3 billion ($9.7 billion), up 29 percent year-on-year, primarily driven by "additional upgrades" and strong demand from AI-related products.
CEO Christophe Fouquet claimed that bookings "are not necessarily a good reflection or an accurate reflection of the business momentum" and said the company will stop providing this number after this year.
"AI is the clear driver. I think we started to see that last year. In fact, at this point, we really believe that AI is going to shape the industry's future."
