Apple is planning to bring real-time transcription to its Voice Memos and Notes apps with iOS 18. The feature will allow users to view a live transcript of their audio recordings within the apps.
In addition to audio transcription, Apple may add AI-powered summaries to Notes, allowing users to generate text summaries of recorded audio content. This move could reduce reliance on third-party apps for similar services.
Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted the company's commitment to privacy in implementing AI features on the iPhone. Simple AI tasks will be processed on the device, with complex requests being directed to third-party servers.
Apart from Voice Memos and Notes, Apple is rumored to enhance other apps like Siri with more AI capabilities in iOS 18. Siri may gain the ability to analyze and summarize texts in Messages and offer webpage summarization in Safari.
