Following the WWDC 25, Apple executives clarified that their demonstrations of a new AI-powered Siri were not vaporware. Craig Federighi articulated the company's long-term vision for AI as a transformative wave for the industry. He highlighted Apple's focus on releasing a product that meets customer expectations rather than rushing to be first. The company is developing a second version of Siri's AI architecture, which is scheduled for launch in 2026, addressing previous concerns about the technology's readiness.
Federighi emphasized, "There's no need to rush out with the wrong features and the wrong product just to be first," pointing out Apple’s cautious approach to AI.
"We were filming real working software with a real large language model with real semantic search," claimed Federighi, defending the functionality shown at WWDC 24.
Joswiak countered the demoware narrative: "It was... something we thought, as Craig said, we'd actually ship by later in the year."
Federighi revealed Apple has two versions of the AI architecture for Siri and that they aim to meet expectations with the upcoming version 2 set for 2026.
