AIs and Robots Should Sound Robotic
Briefly

Advancements in AI-generated voices have created systems that closely resemble human speech, leading to concerns about the replacement of human jobs, particularly in customer service. As AI continues to develop, it raises ethical questions about human interactions and the transparency of AI. The article argues that robots should maintain a distinctly robotic sound to ensure users can differentiate between human and AI engagements, thus preserving trust and human relationships. The proposed solution is the use of ring modulators in AI voices, harkening back to earlier synthetic speech methods to reinforce this distinction.
Humans need to know whether we're talking with a living, breathing person or a robot with an agenda set by the person who controls it.
AI agents will make calls on our behalf, conversing with others in natural language, making human interaction less essential.
