AI-generated child sex abuse images targeted with new laws
Briefly

The UK government has announced four new laws to combat the threat of AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This legislation makes the UK the first country to criminalize the possession, creation, and distribution of AI tools designed for this purpose, carrying penalties of up to five years in prison. Additional laws prohibit possession of AI pedophile manuals and the operation of websites facilitating CSAM sharing. The Border Force will also gain powers to inspect devices of suspected offenders, aiming to enhance child protection against online exploitation.
"We know that sick predators' activities online often lead to them carrying out the most horrific abuse in person," said Home Secretary Yvette Cooper.
The Home Office says that, to better protect children, the UK will be the first country to make it illegal to possess AI tools designed to create CSAM.
