Asda has reduced fuel prices by 4p per litre for both petrol and diesel, sparked by declining wholesale costs. The average prices are now 132.0p for petrol and 137.6p for diesel. Asda's chairman, Allan Leighton, emphasized the brand’s commitment to providing value to families. The RAC applauded Asda's actions, noting it could encourage other retailers to lower prices. In contrast, the AA highlighted that there has been a long-standing tendency among retailers to monitor competitively instead of reducing prices earlier, affecting consumers negatively.

Luke Bosdet, the AA fuel price spokesman, commented, "We suspect that the retailers, knowing that there was room to lower prices, were watching each other locally to see who would budge first."
