US judge orders Apple to reappear in court to explain refusal to comply with antitrust ruling
Briefly

Apple is facing legal challenges as a US District Judge mandated the company to justify its refusal to comply with an injunction in a case with Epic Games. The order comes after allegations that Apple has not sufficiently eased App Store restrictions as required, specifically regarding allowing alternative payment methods in apps. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers criticized Apple's leadership, particularly Tim Cook, for ignoring internal compliance recommendations and stated that the company must appear in court to address its non-compliance by May 27, reinforcing the severity of adhering to court orders.
Obviously, Apple is fully capable of resolving this issue without further briefing or a hearing.
This is an injunction, not a negotiation. There are no do-overs once a party willfully disregards a court order.
Internally, Philip Schiller had advocated that Apple comply with the Injunction. But Tim Cook ignored Schiller and instead allowed Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri and his finance team to convince him otherwise.
The order demands that an Apple official personally responsible for ensuring compliance appear in court on May 27.
