Liquid Glass, Apple's design language in iOS 26, has received mixed reviews from users. While it initially struck some as overly sci-fi and glassy, adjustments were made in subsequent beta versions to improve transparency and contrast. The design makes elements appear as if floating on transparent glass, suitable for mixed-reality experiences. Although some users may not love the design, many have grown accustomed to it, indicating a possible acceptance of this new aesthetic direction by Apple.
Liquid Glass started with the Vision Pro's interface, where windows appear to float on top of background elements as if they were on transparent glass.
After using Liquid Glass for a few weeks, I feel neutral toward it, which is better than I anticipated.
Apple seems committed to hurtling us into this mixed-reality-ready aesthetic whether we wanted it or not.
The first beta was a little too glassy and sci-fi. Apple spent the next three beta versions messing with transparency and contrast sliders.
