Brazilian authorities have mandated that Apple permit alternative app stores on iOS within 90 days, citing a precedent of compliance in the EU due to the Digital Markets Act. This ruling stems from an investigation initiated by Mercado Livre in 2022, claiming unfair practices. Despite an initial order for Apple to allow third-party app stores and alternative payment options, an early December injunction overturned this ruling. Apple intends to appeal, emphasizing its commitment to competitive markets while maintaining user trust.
"Apple has already complied with similar obligations in other countries without demonstrating significant impact or irreparable harm to its economic model," Valor reports.
"we face competition in all segments and jurisdictions where we operate, and our focus is always the trust of our users."
