Tesla has lost 64 Supercharger charging stalls on the New Jersey Turnpike as the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) opted for a sole third-party provider for its electric vehicle infrastructure. The NJTA requested that these stalls be decommissioned, creating a significant charging gap on a busy roadway. Tesla had anticipated such a decision and built 116 nearby Superchargers. They also sought to maintain cooperation with the NJTA, offering to build additional Superchargers at New Jersey Service Plazas with upgraded equipment.

Tesla has been preparing for the potential that the Turnpike Authority would make this decision for three years by building 116 Superchargers nearby.
