Southwest flight almost takes off from taxiway - rather than runway - at Florida airport
Briefly

A Southwest Airlines flight was nearly involved in a serious incident at Orlando International Airport when it attempted to take off from a taxiway instead of a runway. The flight crew mistook the taxiway for the runway and began the takeoff roll. Fortunately, air traffic controllers intervened and canceled the takeoff clearance before any harm could occur. No injuries were reported, and passengers were quickly accommodated on another flight to Albany, New York, while an investigation was initiated with the support of the FAA and NTSB.
Southwest Flight 3278 was cleared for takeoff and began its roll on a taxiway after the crew mistook it for a nearby runway, prompting an air traffic controller to intervene.
The airline emphasized that 'nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees' in response to the near-miss incident.
