Passengers at risk with e-bikes on Tube - union
Briefly

The train drivers union, Aslef, is considering a strike ballot due to safety concerns over e-bikes on the London Underground, particularly following a fire incident at Rayners Lane Tube station. The union argues that allowing e-bikes poses a serious risk to both staff and passengers. They highlighted a prior incident where an e-bike caught fire, potentially leading to catastrophic consequences. Transport for London (TfL) reiterated its commitment to safety and is reassessing its risk protocols after the incident, maintaining dialogue with the London Fire Brigade on the matter.
There can be no justification for continuing to put staff and passengers at risk by continuing to allow potentially explosive devices on London Underground trains.
An explosion onboard a train would almost certainly have led to serious casualties or deaths. If it led to a derailment, there was a real risk of a mass casualty event.
