New EV battery boasts 5-min charge time, adding 250 miles of range
Briefly

BYD is focusing on enhancing electric vehicle (EV) charging speeds, with plans to build over 4,000 megawatt chargers, aiming for refueling speeds comparable to gasoline cars. This initiative supports the launch of new EV models, the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, exclusively in China. Although BYD has a presence in Europe, it faces challenges entering the US market due to legislative pushback against Chinese EV manufacturers. Additionally, the range estimates for their new models may vary significantly under different testing standards, which could affect consumer expectations and adoption rates.
Our goal is to make EV charging as fast as refueling a gasoline car," said BYD chairperson Wang Chuanfu.
BYD says it plans to build more than 4,000 of the new megawatt chargers, and customers will be able to make use of them with a pair of new EVs.
While the brand sells its EVs in other markets...its presence in the US is limited to batteries and electric buses.
We should also note that the '250 miles' would decrease significantly when using the EPA range estimate rather than the more generous CLTC.
