The Massachusetts Port Authority approved a rise in Uber and Lyft surcharges at Logan Airport from $3.25 to $5.50 per ride, effective July 1. This change aims to generate funds for $1.5 billion in upgrades to address the airport's increasing congestion issues as passenger numbers are expected to escalate to 53 million in the next decade or so. The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance rider experience by improving infrastructure such as parking and roadways. Also, rideshare companies will start new services to optimize passenger transport.
The recent increase in rideshare surcharges aims to fund $1.5 billion in capital improvements at Logan Airport to alleviate congestion and enhance customer service.
"Logan's ground transportation challenges are real and evolving and are impacting our operations and customer service," said Dan Gallagher, director of aviation business and finance for Massport.
