Kia is recalling nearly 23,000 EV9 electric SUVs due to potentially missing seat bolts, which raises safety concerns in case of an accident - particularly concerning the second and third row seats.
The recall affects 22,883 EV9s built between September 25, 2023, and October 15, 2024, all from Kia's Gwangmyeong assembly plant. Dealers will inspect and secure the seat bolts at no charge.
Although Kia inspected over 1,000 new EV9 units before the recall, they only discovered the issue after customer complaints highlighted missing bolts, indicating a gap in pre-release quality checks.
Kia's proactive approach to remedy the issue demonstrates good corporate responsibility. Recognizing mistakes, like those made by a plant assembly worker regarding missing bolts, is essential for maintaining vehicle safety.
