"The strong performance in BEV sales is driven by private consumers, who account for 77pc of sales, with this sector of the market being supported by strong Government incentives."
"The momentum behind the EV project is there, and we must build on this. Now is not the time to reduce supports. The Government must maintain and extend current incentives for consumers and businesses while investing in infrastructure."
"The acceleration in electric vehicle registrations shows more Irish motorists are confidently making the switch to electromobility, driven by factors including fuel costs, improved charging infrastructure, government incentives and a stronger overall value proposition."
In April, 2,799 electric cars were registered, marking a 109.7% increase from the previous year. This surge is attributed to higher running costs and a shift towards electric vehicles. Overall new car registrations rose 17% to 10,184 units, with year-to-date registrations up 2% to 75,074 vehicles. Electric vehicles now represent 22% of new car sales, with 16,779 EVs registered this year, a 49% increase. The growth is primarily driven by private buyers, supported by government incentives.
