v-Fluence, a firm that profiled over 3,000 organizations and 500 individuals linked to the pesticide industry, has ceased operations following public backlash. Funded by USAID through the International Food Policy Research Institute, it aimed to counteract criticism of pesticides and GM crops by creating detailed profiles accessible to a network of industry insiders. This included personal information about journalists, scientists, and advocates targeted by the pesticide sector. Coordination with U.S. government officials suggested a strong alignment with regulatory interests, raising ethical concerns regarding privacy and industry practices.
Many profiles include personal details including the names of family members, phone numbers, home addresses and even house values.
v-Fluence created profiles on more than 3,000 organizations and 500 people, coordinated with government officials to counter global resistance to pesticides and GM crops.
