According to the research found that the calves had only mild disease, moderate viral replication, and no transmission to other calves housed in the same location.
Dr. Richt wrote, 'If people like to drink raw milk, this milk could be contaminated with this virus. It's obviously a risk to drink raw milk right now.'
The dairy cows developed severe mammary gland infection, characterized by fever, mastitis and abrupt reduction in milk yield, highlighting the risk posed by the virus.
Richt added that humans can get bird flu, but there have been no reports of human-to-human transmission, just yet. Essentially, the virus hits a dead end when it infects humans, for now.
