Exclusive | 'Immortality herb' may be more beneficial than green tea: 'Few in the US know about it'
Briefly

Jiaogulan, also known as Gynostemma pentaphyllum, is gaining attention for its health benefits, including metabolism boosting and inflammation reduction. Used for centuries in traditional medicine, it has gained popularity in the last decade, primarily in teas and supplements. Medical experts like Dr. Michael Aziz highlight its significant antioxidant properties, noting a value eight times that of green tea. The bitter yet slightly sweet taste stems from its saponins, which are believed to foster detoxification and protective effects on the heart and liver, making it beneficial for various health conditions.
"Jiaogulan tea has a very high ORAC value (anti-oxidant capacity). It is eight times higher than what is found in green tea," said Aziz, author of "The Ageless Revolution."
"The bitter taste and cold nature of [jiaogulan] are particularly effective in clearing heat and detoxifying the body, making it beneficial for conditions such as viral hepatitis, chronic gastroenteritis, chronic bronchitis," researchers wrote.
