""For the first time ever, we are able to capture farmers' valuable waste and turn it into cash... so join us, MoFarm, in turning emissions into earnings, and farts into fuel.""
""We met in an engineering class. We came up with using metal organic frameworks... these incredible materials that can capture gases at really low concentrations. We were looking for a place we could really do some good with them.""
""It helps farmers keep farming for a product they're already producing - and that's currently just wafting away.""
A team of six UC Berkeley students is competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference InVenture Prize with their startup MoFarm. This initiative captures methane emissions from dairy cows and converts it into renewable natural gas. The project originated in an engineering class, where team members Ethan Foong and Tom Blake sought to utilize metal organic frameworks to address methane emissions in the dairy industry. MoFarm's system vacuums methane from barns, filters it, and shares revenue with farmers, helping them financially while addressing climate challenges.
