World Coffee Research, together with the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, launched CafeClima, a free web platform to support climate-smart coffee replanting decisions for farmers, agronomists, funders and investors. Billions of aging coffee trees worldwide need replacement while climate volatility raises the risk that new plantings will underperform under future conditions. Research indicates about half of land currently suitable for arabica coffee could become unsuitable by 2050. An estimated 4 million hectares of smallholder coffee farmland require renovation. Approximately $1.2 billion was invested in renovation over two decades, reaching only about 5% of 11.5 million farmers in need.
