Alumni Spotlight: Bridging Science, Policy and Strategy for Climate Action
Briefly

Tiffany Wu, a 2023 graduate from Columbia University’s MPA in Environmental Science and Policy program, works as a senior program associate at Winrock International. She focuses on climate and sustainability projects, addressing carbon markets and greenhouse gas accounting. Wu’s background includes field research and roles in various sectors, enabling her to bridge science, policy, and strategy. Her current role involves engaging with nonprofit processes like proposal writing and managing grants. Education at Columbia provided her with hands-on experience in corporate and public-sector contexts through relevant projects.
My role at Winrock International encompasses a diverse range of projects that focus on energy, the voluntary carbon market, and corporate greenhouse gas accounting. I engage deeply with standards and guidance, such as the Science Based Targets initiative and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Working in a nonprofit exposes me to all facets of the process, including proposal writing and managing grants and contracts, which differs significantly from corporate environments where tasks are often divided among specialized teams.
The experience I gained from Columbia, particularly through projects involving the Global Reporting Initiative and the Inflation Reduction Act, proved invaluable. My courses, including Corporate Sustainability Reporting and the capstone project, provided a solid foundation in both corporate and public-sector contexts and prepared me to navigate diverse professional environments effectively.
