Taxpayer-funded 15m lab will make 'net zero alternative proteins'

At the moment we import over £15 billion worth of protein products - that's meat, dairy and seafood. So we need to shift to a system where we're able to produce more of those protein products within the UK.
One way the centre could help improve British diet was by harnessing 'sweet' proteins, such as those found in tropical plants, that could be used as a sugar substitute.
