We're now well past the halfway point of the NHL season, and things are still quite wacky. From all eight teams in the Atlantic being separated by just thirteen points to just six points separating eight teams in the Western Conference wild card race, it's still going to take some time to truly see some separation in the NHL. And the statistics don't even begin to paint such a picture. Here's just five of the wildest numbers from another chaotic month of NHL hockey.
If the Flames want to be buyers and try to go all-in on a playoff push, they do have the means to try and make it work. According to PuckPedia, the Calgary Flames are currently sitting on nearly $10 million in cap space, making a move for a veteran piece extremely plausible. In this case, teams like the Winnipeg Jets could be potential trade targets.
One) The Central Division should be ultra-competitive in 2025-26. Two) The Jets have the oldest roster in the NHL and only got older this offseason. Related: NHL's Top 10 Centres for 2025-26: Preseason Update They let the 29-year-old Nikolaj Ehlers walk in free agency and signed 37-year-old Jonathan Toews, 36-year-old Gustav Nyquist, and 33-year-old Tanner Pearson. Those signings give the Jets an average of 30.17, the only NHL roster with an average age over 30 entering the 2025-26 season.

Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was on a mission to change the roster for the better. Last season left a bad taste in his mouth and he wanted to make changes. He re-signed two of his biggest players, center Gabe Vilardi (six-year deal) and defenseman Dylan Samberg (three-year deal). He then went out in free agency and added some depth but those players filled holes.
