As a SoCal resident, I visit Anza-Borrego at least once a year to explore the sandstone Slot canyon and surrounding desert, keeping an eye out for animals like chuckwalla lizards and bighorn sheep. Despite its incredibly dry environment (the park averages just four to eight inches of rain a year, and summertime temps routinely hit the hundreds), Anza-Borrego teems with life and opportunities to explore one of the nation's most unique ecosystems.

Mendocino County is throwing four different whale fests, on the four weekends of March, each in a separate coastal community. After that comes Monterey, in April, with its big annual celebration full of science and wharf fun.

Alaska is a hot spot for grizzly bears, easily home to the most of any of the 50 states. There are an estimated 30,000 across the entire state, representing over 98 percent of the United States population. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game manages the population, ensuring that the population remains healthy and grizzly bear viewing opportunities stay abundant.

Rocky Mountain National Park, located about an hour outside of Boulder, Colorado, offers visitors more than 400 square miles to roam, including everything from meadow to challenging mountain terrain across more than 300 miles of hiking trails. And that's just the start. Fiorella Yriberry, a travel expert at RVshare, couldn't agree more, noting that the Aspen trees offer a particular beauty this season: "The aspen trees turn brilliant gold, the air is crisp, and the crowds have thinned out for the season."
