My biggest disappointment with the coaching staff this year in the late stages of the season. This season was not going to be what we hoped it would be. My biggest frustration is how they seemingly don't acknowledge it, and don't make a difference. We are eliminated from playoff contention, but we're still going to throw everybody out there. The best way to get better as a young player is to actually play football games. Get the young guys out onto the field.
I just constantly remind guys, just have fun. As stressful as football is, as much as it hurts the body, it's the most fun you're going to have in this life, I guarantee it. That's the message [Canales] constantly preaches. It's all about us. It's always going to be about us, and that's not going to change. And here we are in Week 18 ... the moment of it's all about us.
The Commanders didn't expect Quan Martin to fall flat. All the offseason hype was centered on the 2023 second-round pick making a monumental leap this season, potentially even entering breakout status and surging into the conversation among the best young safeties around the league. That has not gone according to plan. Martin has been way short of the required standards this season.
