WASHINGTON -- President Donald Trump said Saturday that he would be nominating senior White House aide Lindsey Halligan to serve as the top federal prosecutor for the Virginia office that was thrown into turmoil when its U.S. attorney was pushed out Friday. In a social media post just after he departed the White House for an event at Mount Vernon, Trump wrote he was nominating Halligan as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, writing that she "will be Fair, Smart, and will provide, desperately needed, JUSTICE FOR ALL!"
The federal public defender's office in Los Angeles filed a motion Friday to disqualify acting U.S. Atty. Bill Essayli, arguing that President Trump's pick to serve as the top federal prosecutor in Southern California is unlawfully occupying his post.
"Essayli is a very specific and terrible threat," Daruvala said during a recent town hall for the "Stop Essayli" campaign, which is working to block the top prosecutor's permanent appointment. "He has already shown multiple times that he is willing to use the office in a partisan manner."
The Board of Judges of the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York declines to exercise the authority granted pursuant to 28 U.S. Code § 546(d) to appoint a United States attorney for the Northern District of New York.
