My parents had family visiting the small town where we all still live. It was the mid-80s, and bowling was just becoming a thing in bigger cities like Sydney.
"The NWSLPA is proud to join Project ACL, which brings together players, leagues and researchers to better understand ACL injuries. That understanding requires looking beyond the individual and examining the conditions players train and compete in each day. Project ACL is an opportunity to build the kind of player-centric evidence that can lead to meaningful changes across women's professional soccer."
I think when this first was announced, there was this feeling there would be 10 NFL players on that roster, and I'll be surprised if there's one. I think we have plenty of players that can acclimate, but it's going to take a month or two.
For decades in the US, table tennis has lived a double life: one of the most widely played sports in the country, yet still dismissed by many as a basement pursuit. Now, unexpectedly, it is having a cultural moment. The release of Marty Supreme, a film steeped in obsession and myth, and loosely based on postwar American table tennis champion Marty Reisman, has pushed ping-pong into the pop-culture mainstream just as US Major League Table Tennis sells out matches, clubs report growing interest, and younger players pick up paddles for the first time.
It's time for the CIF state championships in basketball and soccer (first time for soccer) in Sacramento on Friday and Saturday. Basketball will be played at Golden 1 Center. Soccer is at Natomas High.
When I was little, like 7, and we were living in northern California, most army installations had a rugby team. My dad [a Green Beret] served over 20 years, and there's pictures of me at my dad's rugby games, which is wild to think about how full circle that's all come. He grew up playing football, then like most football players when he tried rugby, concussed himself three times in his first practice, knocked himself out, but he loved it.
It's a bit of a no-brainer. We're women, we've all got different shapes and sizes. As a 20-year-old, wearing a dress would have been fine for me, but if you put me on court now I couldn't think of anything worse than wearing a netball dress. - Coach Tamsin Greenway on Mavericks' kit innovation
Both the PLL and WLL teams will compete from Feb. 27 through March 8 at the St. James in Springfield, Va., in the Sixes format. This is the same format that will be used when lacrosse returns to the Olympics at the Los Angeles Games in 2028. All games will be available on the ESPN App and in the streaming hubs for the PLL and WLL.
The Texas Tech star (19.6 PPG, 7.5 APG, 44% from beyond the arc) is the son of a German father and recently played for Germany's 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup team. In that event, he averaged 17.3 PPG, leading the nation to a silver medal. He could be an All-American this season and represent Germany once again in the 2028 Olympic Summer Games.
After 18 weeks of the NFL regular season, the moment is almost here. The Super Bowl represents the pinnacle of pressure. For the athletes that take the field, it's the moment they've been waiting for. The culmination of years of preparation for that one game. There is little margin for error and the moment is unforgiving. Yet, the psychological demands of Super Bowl game day aren't as unique as we think.
The final game of the night was Crespi pulling out a 65-61 win over Loyola when Isaiah Barnes scored while falling down with 15 seconds left for the game-clinching basket. Despite the loss, Loyola claimed fourth place in the seedings while finishing in a three-way tie for fourth with Crespi and St. Francis. The Cubs, though, are 14-14 and will need a win Saturday against the winner of Thursday's Bishop Alemany (No. 8) vs. St. Francis (No. 5) game to keep alive their Southern Section playoff hopes. You need a .500 or better record to be considered for an at-large berth.
They were right. If you've been around interscholastic sports long enough, you can sense trouble. The real problem arrived in the fourth quarter, when two players tackled each other at half court. Coaches and teammates rushed in, and one boy appeared to kick the player from the opposing team. Security and administrators broke up the tussle, but this time parents made it to the center of the action.
