White Sox 4, Mariners 3: Remillard reigns in Seattle

The White Sox reached win No. 30 in 2023 against the Dodgers in an impressive comeback, after the bullpen nearly flopped. Most of the defense still looked abysmal, but a few bats were hot tonight, especially one Jake Burger. Not only was his bat hot, but he ended the game by turning a double play.A side note: While we do our best to not cover one of the starting pitchers, I will note that the White Sox starter in this game left in the fourth inning clutching his right arm.
The Chicago White Sox lose Mike Clevinger mid-fifth inning but rally to top the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4
Mike Clevinger had just thrown the fourth pitch of a fifth-inning battle with Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Mariners let opportunity knock, stay on couch, lose 4-3
Mariners fans should know better than anyone else that, in lost seasons, things like an unheralded player making his MLB debut and winning the game are the necessary bits of masonry that make the drudgery of a broken-down house livable. But that doesn't mean it's fun to watch, on the other side.Today the Mariners lost in extras to the White Sox, 4-3.

The Dodgers might be watching the White Sox closely
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox haven't played each other very much in history.Only a handful of times have these two teams met on the playing field. They are meeting this year as a result of the brand new schedule in which everyone plays everyone. You might remember that they actually did play each other last year as a part of the typical inter-league schedule.

Chicago White Sox face a challenging June - 7 straight series against teams with winning records, Aaron Judge and more Shohei Ohtani
The Chicago White Sox were looking to end May on a good note.Instead they found themselves trailing by seven runs after four innings against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Sox surrendered five homers - two by Shohei Ohtani - in the 12-5 loss."If you don't regroup and come back with some energy (Friday), this thing can linger on, so it's our responsibility to make sure we nip this in the bud and get back to work and bring some energy against Detroit and hopefully win a series," manager Pedro Grifol said Wednesday.
Would you believe me if I told you the White Sox struggled mightily against a rookie pitcher who entered the game with a 10.80 ERA?Given the team's penchant for withering at any up-and-coming pitcher, you likely believe me.In fact, Seattle Mariners starter Bryan Woo struck out nine in just more than five innings, leaving the South Siders flustered as they feebly chased sliders off the plate away time and time again.
Welcome one and all to another edition of Late Night White Sox Baseball, this time in Seattle against the Mariners!(Don't we all just loooove West Coast trips?)It's Pride Night at T-Mobile Park, and whether or not we're proud of the White Sox performance by night's end has yet to be seen. However, given the last two games against the Dodgers, the Good Guys are most likely going to find a way to disappoint us.

On this Bloomsday, it's time to marinate in Mariners hate, as the Sox slump into Seattle licking their wounds like Bloom on the beach. There is nothing Joycean about this season, no epic of the single day, even though each game seems to spread out into a stream-of-consciousness flow of frustration, lingering and unspooling unto loss after loss after loss.
Two White Sox players crack MLB's top-3 with most plate appearances without a home run
The White Sox are built to be a power hitting team. They haven't been much of that this season.Despite cracking the top 10 in MLB for home runs in June, they rank 17th in that category this season.Specifically, the White Sox have two players contributing heavily to that underwhelming output. The almost chilling graphic represents two struggling long ball hitters for the Sox this season.
White Sox' Andrew Benintendi trying to find groove while playing with sore hand
SEATTLE - Left fielder Andrew Benintendi is well aware he signed the richest contract in White Sox history. He also knows he hasn't lived up to it during the first two and a half months in a Sox uniform. So don't try suggesting his defense, .265average and .337on-base percentage should leave him feeling OK about his production.

Dodgers ride Clayton Kershaw, but bullpen blows it late against White Sox
(Alex Gallardo / Associated Press)
Clayton Kershaw is nowhere near as dominant as he was from 2011 to '17, when he went 118-41 with a 2.10 earned-run average in 207 starts and won three National League Cy Young Awards and a most valuable player award. But even at 35, with a sometimes balky back and nearly 2,700 innings on his odometer, the Dodgers left-hander has been the clear-cut ace of an injury-ravaged rotation that lost Walker Buehler to Tommy John surgery, Dustin May to a major forearm injury and has been without Julio Urías (left hamstring strain) for a month.

MLB analyst calls Dodgers 'hand-in-glove fit' for White Sox' Tim Anderson
The White Sox and MLB are just under seven weeks away from the Aug. 1 trade deadline. And the South Siders aren't exactly performing up to par this season. They hold a 29-39 record, as of this writing, with a third-place standing in AL Central -- far and away the weakest division in baseball. If the Sox continue their ways as the deadline nears, one MLB analyst sees a perfect fit for Tim Anderson if the Sox pivot to sellers.

White Sox drop series to Marlins in heart-breaking fashion
While the Chicago White Sox are 6-3 thus far in June, after the series at home against the Miami Marlins, it's hard for fans not to be upset or frustrated. All three games of the series were winnable for the White Sox and they only walked away with a lone victory.Whether it was the late-inning error by Tim Anderson in the second game that led to a loss or the collapse of the bullpen during the late stages of games two and three, it was a heartbreaking series loss for the club.
Second consecutive ninth-inning meltdown sinks Sox
When Luis Robert laced a walk-off single down the left field line of Friday's 2-1 win over the Marlins, the White Sox had won six of seven and climbed within 3.5 games of the AL Central lead. Two bullpen meltdowns later, and reality has reared its head."It hurts," manager Pedro Grifol said after Keynan Middleon and Kendall Graveman combined to give up five runs between the eighth and ninth innings of Sunday's 6-5 loss.

Marlins 5, White Sox 1: Pitching and defense win ballgames
The old adage of pitching and defense wins ballgames rang forever true in today's game.It was a pitchers' duel for the first eight innings, and then it all went awry when both the pitching and defense imploded in the top of the ninth.Michael Kopech, who earned a no-decision, battled today and blanked the Miami Marlins with good, not great, stuff.
Joe Kelly's struggles, Tim Anderson's gaffe doom White Sox in loss to Marlins

This game shaped up as a pitchers' duel, and a pitchers' duel it delivered, assisted by a White Sox offense that simply swallowed its good fortune (nine hits to Miami's four, two Marlins errors) by going 1-for-10 with RISP through eight innings. But when the game is tied, things advance to just a six-outs contest, and the White Sox came through late, with Luis Robert Jr. tapping in Elvis Andrus for the game-winner.

After yesterday's game was postponed due to unhealthy smoke conditions in New York caused by massive wildfires in Quebec, the White Sox and Yankees are going to try to get in two games today, as a straight doubleheader. The air was still smoke-filled this morning, but the forecast calls for a wind change to southerly, which should clear the air, at least literally.
New York Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox (game 1): Luis Severino vs. Lance Lynn
Historically poor air quality conditions in the Northeast forced MLB to postpone yesterday's contest against the White Sox, meaning the Yankees will play back-to-back games this afternoon to decide the winner of the series. With Aaron Judge on the IL with a toe contusion/sprain, perhaps the added rest day is just what the depleted offense needs - they sure looked far off the pace in the series opener, getting no-hit by Lucas Giolito into until the Chicago bullpen lost it in the seventh inning.

Paul Sullivan: As the Chicago White Sox return to Yankee Stadium, a look back at their highs and lows in the Bronx
The original Yankee Stadium would have turned 100 years old this season had it not been replaced in 2009 by the gargantuan, sterile replica that now bears its name. The Chicago White Sox, who arrive in the Bronx on Tuesday for an important three-game series against their longtime rivals, have been part of some memorable moments in both the new and old stadium.
Jake Burger's walk-off grand slam gives the Chicago White Sox a 6-2 win - and series sweep - vs. the Detroit Tigers

Throughout the 2023 season, no White Sox hitter has been as prodigious as Jake Burger, and with his slugging has shone some the rare sunshine of a player who never took for granted he'd get to the bigs.On Sunday, Burger provided a blast that just might rescue the White Sox season. With the sacks packed, with one ball and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Burger sent a low curve from Alex Lange that ate too much of the heart of the plate and sent a screaming meemie out just over the wall in left-center.

White Sox win on walk-off with unexpected help from umpire

White Sox 2, Tigers 1 (F/10): A great Michael Lorenzen outing wasted
A very well pitched game from both sides saw no runs driven in by either side. All three came via wild pitches, and the tally of one for the Sox, two wild pitches by the Tigers, tells the tale as the White Sox made it two in a row with a 2-1 victory on Saturday. For five innings, Tigers' right-hander Michael Lorenzen and White Sox's ace Dylan Cease locked up in a really good pitchers' duel.
Nothing like a game without a single RBI, or even a hit with anyone on base.Guess with the Tigers and the White Sox facing off, you should expect something like that. But somebody had to win it, so it might as well have been the White Sox.That win came in the 10th, when Manfred Man Yoán Moncada, having switched to his yellow shoes for speed, got advanced to third on a nice Romy González bunt.
The White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers, picking up a game in the AL Central race, but of course, they had to do it in typical South Side fashion. The bats were nonexistent for the first two-thirds of the game, and at times it really felt like we were watching paint dry.We knew this game likely wasn't going to be pretty given how mediocre both teams are, but for the first three innings, there was a no-hit battle taking place.

White Sox 3, Tigers 0: Quiet bats squander Reese Olson's fine major league debut
Reese Olson's debut went as well as you could hope on a warm night on the south side.He no hit the White Sox for five innings, racking up six strikeouts with only a walk allowed.Unfortunately the offense couldn't get much going as the Tigers fell to the Sox 3-0 to open the weekend series. In many ways it was a classic Olson outing, displaying the strength of his slider and especially his fearsome oneseam changeup, but also his inability to locate his fastball.

Baseball is a difficult game and a profession for the select gifted few tough enough to survive its peaks and valleys, but it's also a kid's game played best by adults when they keep it fun.White Sox manager Pedro Grifol knows this.So when he observed Romy Gonzalez beating himself up during a tough time, he had advice for the 26-year-old infielder/outfielder: "Play the game the way it needs to be played."
