The proposed project would also create a new professional-size theater for TheatreWorks to present its mainstage productions, as well as space for the company's arts education, community engagement and new works programs. The city is pursuing development of a recreation and wellness center on another portion of the Cubberley campus.
Showcase Cinemas opened in Foxborough in 2008 and announced its early 2026 closure in October, according to Boston25. The Foxborough theater will be Phoenix's second Bay State location, alongside its Pittsfield site, and is expected to open in the summer of 2026. Phoenix Theatres also has locations in Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, and Tennessee, with this location being its 93rd, according to the announcement.
