Some changes are in store for Kendall Square Cinema
"The business has changed quite a bit in terms of art. We still play lots of art films and still cater to that audience. However, the theater will also continue to play commercial films to cater to a larger audience."
"The new plans include combining the two largest auditoriums into a single venue featuring a giant-format screen, a stage, event lighting, and luxury recliner seating with tables and power outlets. The cinema will also have a full-service bar area with booth seating and tables."
"Operated by Landmark Theatres since 1995, Kendall Square Cinema has hosted special events such as local premieres, benefit screenings, and film festivals. The theater is known for showcasing independent films, foreign-language cinema, restored classics, and documentaries."
Kendall Square Cinema in Cambridge will begin top-to-bottom renovations in March, completing by late summer. The upgrades include combining two largest auditoriums into a giant-format screen venue with luxury recliners, tables, and power outlets. A full-service bar with booth seating, upstairs event rental room, expanded kitchen, and new formal entry will be added. Bathrooms and all auditoriums receive upgrades, with LED storefronts displaying showtimes. The box office converts to a video arcade. Landmark Theatres, operating the venue since 1995, maintains its commitment to independent, foreign-language, and documentary films while expanding commercial offerings. This represents the theater's first major renovation since 2017.
