NASA plans to launch a 120-inch reflecting telescope in the early 1980s called the Large Space Telescope, which will be able to map the recessional velocities of galaxies and potentially reveal new objects in other galaxies.
The Hubble Space Telescope, originally called the Large Space Telescope, was approved by the National Academy of Sciences in 1969 and was launched in 1990. [ more ]

A team of astronomers is working on designing a telescope to find signs of life on planets orbiting other stars.

Lost in Space: NASA astronaut's dropped tool bag flying over London - how to catch a glimpse
A lost tool bag from a NASA astronaut's spacewalk is now orbiting the earth just in front of the International Space Station and can be seen with binoculars or a small telescope.
The bag will be flying over London a few times next week, appearing as a small fast-moving dot in the sky.
Next Tuesday (28th Nov) and Thursday (30th Nov) are the best days to try and spot the bag. [ more ]
