Eight of the municipal networks studied beat their local provider competitors in median upload speed. Sherwood Broadband - in the town of the same name in Oregon - was the only one to beat its local competitor in median download speed.
A router is the hub that sends internet traffic from the modem to every connected device. Even with a fast plan, an outdated or weak router can throttle home internet speed, causing buffering, lag, and slow loading times. This often shows up when multiple people stream, game, or join video calls at the same time.
Google Fiber, now just GFiber, will merge with Stonepeak's Astound Broadband to create a new network provider. Stonepeak will hold a majority ownership stake, while the existing GFiber executive team will run the company. According to the pair, the move gives GFiber the external capital and necessary focus to drive its next phase of expansion, allowing it to buildout its fiber footprint across the US.
When a site feels unsafe, unreliable or even slightly "off," users don't rationalize the problem. They react to it. They leave. And in many cases, they don't just abandon the session - they go straight to a competitor.

Though Starlink's market and capacity have grown sharply over the last year, the satellite broadband company's median speeds still fall short of the 100/20 Mbps benchmark established by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 2024, according to a new report from Ookla. The report - "2025 Global Satellite Broadband Performance Report" - was released yesterday. The report marked improvements in Starlink's cumulative network capacity, which has nearly doubled in the past year.
The Osaka deployment adds 100 Gbps of edge capacity and is hosted within carrier-neutral facilities operated by Equinix. This increases regional proximity, resilience, and throughput for customers serving users in Japan and nearby markets, while maintaining consistent traffic handling and security enforcement. As organizations scale across regions, maintaining low latency, stable availability, and clear operational control has become increasingly complex.
Across 2025 as a whole, the company tracked more than 180 significant disruptions, with the final quarter dominated by cable damage, power problems, and routine operational failures. There was just one confirmed government-directed shutdown during the period. Tanzania saw a sharp drop in internet traffic on October 29 as violent protests broke out during the country's presidential election, with traffic falling by more than 90 percent. Traffic returned briefly before declining again, and routing data pointed to throttling rather than a clean shutdown.
Slow pages frustrate visitors, increasing bounce rates and reducing conversions, while fast-loading sites enhance engagement, mobile experience, and revenue potential. Page load improvement involves compressing files, caching assets, and minimizing code, all contributing to performance gains that retain users and satisfy search algorithms. Beyond technical tweaks, user-centric strategies such as lazy loading and prioritizing above-the-fold content ensure visitors experience immediate value without waiting for every element to render.
For any IT department, these four words are the beginning of a familiar, often frustrating, journey. In our modern world, where business success is built on distributed applications and hybrid cloud architectures, the network is the circulatory system. When it fails, everything grinds to a halt. Yet, despite its critical importance, it often remains a black box-a source of blame that is difficult to prove or disprove.
At that point, backpressure and load shedding are the only things that retain a system that can still operate. If you have ever been in a Starbucks overwhelmed by mobile orders, you know the feeling. The in-store experience breaks down. You no longer know how many orders are ahead of you. There is no clear line, no reliable wait estimate, and often no real cancellation path unless you escalate and make noise.
Opensignal's research found that T-Mobile led all carriers for reliability, experience, consistent quality, and access to 5G. Consistent quality is defined as how well a network supports the requirements for common applications that users consider acceptable to complete various "demanding" tasks, though Opensignal doesn't define what "demanding" is in this context. Reliability, on the other hand, refers to the ability of users to connect to and complete everyday tasks.
The achievement was revealed at the recent CES 2026, using commercial modem silicon, with real satellite-to-satellite mobility, leading to a standard 5G phone said to stay connected while switching between satellites, using the new 3GPP Release 19 n252 band, as defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) under Release 1. The demo also represented the public validation of n252 in an NTN system, a band expected to be adopted by next-generation low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations.
Ookla said the growing use of ChatGPT and other AI tools places much more demand on mobile networks than the typical activities of browsing social media and the web, watching videos, texting, and making the occasional phone call. As a result, more speed and expanded capabilities will be necessary. The report said advanced AI capabilities like AI-enabled glasses will put a particular strain on upload connections in the future.
Edge computing is a type of IT infrastructure in which data is collected, stored, and processed near the "edge" or on the device itself instead of being transmitted to a centralized processor. Edge computing systems usually involve a network of devices, sensors, or machinery capable of data processing and interconnection. A main benefit of edge computing is its low latency. Since each endpoint processes information near the source, it can be easier to process data, respond to requests, and produce detailed analytics.
Nearly every part of modern life depends on our connection to the internet. When my provider experiences an outage, everything grinds to a halt -- working remotely via VPN, streaming music on Spotify, and even using smart home devices. It's a stark reminder of how much we rely on the invisible network that keeps us connected. Almost every aspect of modern life is affected by our connectivity to the Web.
These AI tools drive profitability because they reduce outages, save energy, and obviate the need for manual intervention said Chetan Sharma, CEO of Chetan Sharma Consulting, who contributed to the report. The focus on AI-native networks and autonomous operations has overtaken customer service optimization as the leading use case for investment, according to findings from the firm's fourth annual State of AI in Telecommunications survey. The report also showed that AI has become profitable for 90% of telco operators.
There is "no single data source" that can determine exactly how well a page performs across different forms of search, said Alex Halliday, CEO of AirOps, a generative AI platform that helps brands improve their search visibility and strengthen their content. AirOps' newest product, Page360, is designed to help brands update content based on how their media or products appear in traditional search, AI search and online community forums, such as Reddit, Pinterest or Quora (which inform AI models).
Support for distributed systems. Check how well the tool handles microservices, serverless, and Kubernetes. Can you follow a request across services, queues, and third-party APIs? Does it understand pods, nodes, clusters, and autoscaling events, or does it treat everything like a static host? Correlation across metrics, logs, and traces. In an incident, you shouldn't be copying IDs between tools. Look for the ability to pivot directly from a slow trace to relevant logs,
