Numerous major social platforms including Meta, YouTube, TikTok and Snap they will submit to a new external grading process that scores social platforms on how well they protect adolescent mental health. The program comes from the Mental Health Coalition's Safe Online Standards (SOS) initiative, which comprises about two dozen standards covering areas like platform policy, functionality, governance and transparency, content oversight and more.
Becky Riggs, the acting chief constable of Staffordshire police, called for tech companies to use AI tools to automatically prevent indecent pictures from being uploaded and shared on their sites. Riggs, who is the National Police Chiefs' Council lead for child protection and abuse, said: I know that these platforms, with the technology that's out there, could prevent these harms from occurring in the first instance.
So when somebody sees the dance video, what they're going to do is they're going to see, and then it's going to go through all of these sensations: the way that they see, hear, feel, touch, smell, all of that. And it's going to go through all of their own past experiences. So everything that they've ever been told about dancing and themselves, it'll go through what they believe about the world, if they think dancing is good or bad or silly or stupid.
While we've always encouraged people to both block and report, this new combined option will make this process easier, and help make sure potentially violating accounts are reported to us, so we can review and take action.
