A lithium-ion battery fire occurred at the Brooklyn Public Library, prompting a quick response from firefighters with no injuries reported.
Two men who brought explosives to a protest outside New York City's mayoral mansion said they were inspired by the Islamic State extremist group, a court complaint said. Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi were being held without bail after their arraignment Monday on charges that include attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization and using a weapon of mass destruction.
At one point, we were using approximately 15,000 gallons of water a minute on this fire. There is extensive, extensive damage to these buildings, just complete losses. The warehouse at 17 53rd St. was completely destroyed, its roof collapsed, and there was danger that the walls would too.
On January 18, a photograph of a pair of safety goggles in a hardware store floated across my Instagram timeline. "#JOURNALISTS covering #iceprotest in #Minneapolis: Less lethal projectiles move 400-600 feet per second. Z87.1 glasses no longer provide the protection required," read the caption. The post came from Crisis Ready Media and was shared by the National Press Photographers' Association (NPPA).
FireDrone is an aerogel-covered that can help firefighters in rescue missions by surveying for victims inside burning buildings. The assistive device aims to be the 'flying eye' in extreme environments so humans can be sure of who are and what is inside a site before going in. The FireDrone flying machine resembles a small quadcopter with its four arms and spinning propellers, but unlike regular drones, the parts of the device are built to survive high temperatures.
Yet, at least one time, it was. This is a story I heard from Dave Hannaman, who worked at an Army human resources organization when I met with him many years ago. (Dave died in 2021.) Dave had been in the Army, including a stint as a "tunnel rat" in Vietnam. He was one of the brave soldiers who would go down into the tunnels the Viet Cong had constructed and booby-trapped. He was that kind of guy.
Military history is filled with firearms that looked formidable on paper but proved far less impressive in the hands of average troops. In many cases, the issue was not flawed engineering, but unrealistic assumptions about training and doctrine. Some weapons were built with elite users in mind, soldiers who could manage the weapon and tactical nuance at a level most forces never reached.
During a five-day trial in Albuquerque, New Mexico, prosecutors outlined Vandenberg's intention to travel from El Paso, Texas, to California to injure law enforcement officers at the June 14 rally. Investigators found messages on his phone indicating he was angry with President Donald Trump because he believed the U.S. government is controlled by Israel and the Jewish people, according to prosecutors. His home screen on his phone displayed a picture of the Taliban flag.
LFB Dozens of firefighters have extinguished a fire in the basement of a data centre in east London. London Fire Brigade (LFB) said around 60 firefighters and eight fire engines were called to Nutmeg Lane, Blackwall at 04:50 GMT on Saturday. The fire broke out in a battery room containing lead-acid batteries and was brought under control before 07:00. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.
Lavandera reported tension [was] kind of escalating as whistles went off and protesters stood face-to-face with federal officers in the background; others could be seen holding signs and one protester waived the Mexican flag. The CNN broadcast picked up one protester yelling F*cking cowards! at the officers as Lavandera tried to talk about the scene. Authorities have been telling them for probably the better part of an hour to scoot back, Lavandera said.
