The Rocky Horror Picture Show Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Deluxe Vinyl Release

Released today, October 10th, via Ode Records, the 50th anniversary vinyl edition of The Rocky Horror Picture Show is pressed on 180-gram red-in-gold vinyl and comes housed in a heavyweight gold-foil jacket with a newly designed inner sleeve. Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror review insiders' account of cult musical 50 years on

Given its provenance, it's no surprise that no one here says, as they do in the rival documentary, that the 1975 film adaptation is a shitty fucking movie but nevertheless there's honesty on display, mostly about the slapdash origins of the project and the later mistakes made, including the huge flop when the original stage production tried to transfer from Los Angeles to Broadway.

Fall into theater: 11 shows to catch this season - 48 hills

Well, it appears that fall has officially, um, fallen, which means the weather must be getting warmer. I do so love the Bay Area's many micro-climates. They've both hastened and deterred my potentially freezing to death in the cheap Sunset room where I've been staying. Makes me all the more eager to get out of the house. Fortunately, Bay Area theatre provides plenty of incentive to get out and about during the coming months.

Sane Inside Insanity: The Phenomenon of Rocky Horror review joyous fan history of the cult classic

As well as cast members like Little Nell and Barry Bostwick, the talking heads here include original-stage-version actors, fans, and producers, one of whom really nails why Rocky is such a delight: Rocky was an accident. You can't try to have an accident. This gets to the heart of why this particular phenomenon is special and why so many imitators and projects conceived with the intention of being cult entertainment are doomed to fail
