A man was found hiding in the trunk of a Waymo self-driving vehicle in Los Angeles, prompting police intervention and company response.
The driver left her near a gas station in the Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento, which was more than eight miles from her destination in Rosemont, according to the lawsuit. Doe had also left her phone and keys in the backseat. The area was "visibly unsafe" with a "D+ score in local crime grades," according to the suit. Doe was then approached by a man and a woman, who said they would help her get home if she paid them, according to the lawsuit.
Court documents sum up its claim: Plaintiffs argue that carrying a large ax to a suburban condo at night, while intoxicated and acting strangely' is enough to indicate to a reasonable person that a crime was in progress, and that more than simply doing nothing, Lyft through their assigned driver, furthered the progression of the crime by chauffeuring the murder[er] to his intended victim.'
