And the similarities haven't gone unnoticed by many Tumblr users who are now pushing back against the platform becoming another Twitter look-alike, and say the updated reblog chains are harder to follow.
A quick ask around my Whatsapp groups tells me why it's appealing to the millennial female. "It's the source of all knowledge and free of influencers," says one friend. "I use it because it's real people, and ChatGPT is soulless and makes me sad," says another. "I like how old school the platform is - it feels quite separate from adverts, image saturation, influencing," says a third.
Threads is moving to drive more messaging use with a streamlined option to guide users towards messaging in-stream. The new process allows users to type DM me or message me in a post, which will then activate that term as a quick link into the Threads DM flow. Users can still control who can message them in their settings, so this won't open people up to unwanted outreach.
Outage trackers such as Downdetector logged a dramatic surge in problem reports around midday GMT, with tens of thousands of users across regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, and India, reporting problems accessing the service. Some described impossible login loops and error messages telling them only that "something went wrong." Here's where it gets curious: nobody from X has confirmed why the platform hiccupped.
