POMONA, Calif. -- A machete-wielding man chased a teenager through a Southern California laundromat on Saturday after seeing the teen wearing a 49ers jersey, according to the boy's father. The confrontation unfolded inside the Super Wash N Dry in Pomona, where video shows the suspect entering the business holding a large machete. The footage captures the teen running through the laundromat as the man follows him.
A 13-year-old girl was taken into custody over the weekend after fatally shooting a 16-year-old boy in Pomona, police said. On Sunday around 5:22 p.m., officers from the Pomona Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of East Pasadena Avenue, where they found a 16-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. The Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.
On an otherwise industrial-grey corner in downtown Pomona, the bright-pink, cactus-covered facade of Borreguitas beckons like my bisabuela's house in Tijuana, Mexico. Like there, the interior here brims with hanging pothos plants and religious-adjacent wooden furniture; an older Mexican woman stands in the kitchen, apron on and wooden spoon in hand. Borreguitas is the only vegan Mexican spot in this area of eastern Los Angeles county and its menu, filled with tostadas, burritos, tacos, and more, can be made to accommodate gluten-free diners.
