The 29-year-old Okamoto is coming off a season where he appeared in just 69 Central League games for NPB's Yomiuri Giants. The infielder hit .327/.416/.598 in 293 trips to the plate for Yomiuri last year. That was good for an otherworldly 210 wRC+, as he slugged 15 homers with 21 doubles while posting identical 11.3% strikeout and walk rates. That scorching hot half-season isn't reflective of Okamoto's overall body of work, but his numbers are still impressive even over a larger sample.
The 31-year-old Lowe has been a consistently above-average hitter throughout his big league tenure, dating all the way back to his MLB debut in 2018. That includes 2025, when Lowe belted 31 home runs in just 134 games. The lefty-swinging slugger turned in an overall .256/.307/.477 batting line. While his 6.9% walk rate was the lowest of his career, Lowe's 91.1 mph average exit velocity and 46.4% hard-hit rate were some of the best he's posted in his eight major league seasons.
The Orioles have claimed outfielder Will Robertson off waivers from the Pirates, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. There wasn't any previous indication Robertson was on the wire but it seems the Bucs tried to sneak him through waivers in order to open a 40-man spot. The Orioles swooped in to grab him, so Pittsburgh loses Robertson but they do open a roster spot, going from 39 to 38.
Just over a year later, the Pirates have completely flopped on this deal as not only did they fail to find a trade partner for IKF at this years deadline, they placed Kiner-Falefa on waivers and he was claimed by Toronto on Sunday afternoon according to multiple reports. The Toronto Blue Jays claimed utilityman Isiah Kiner-Falefa off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates, sources tell ESPN.
